When architects designing the new Princeton University Art Museum needed to illuminate spaces, protect the art inside, and minimize heat gain, they turned to Solatube daylighting provided by CBG South.

The new 146,000-square-foot Princeton University Art Museum brings expansive galleries, gathering spaces, and thousands of years of art together within nine connected pavilions at the heart of the University’s campus.

A critical design challenge was bringing natural daylight into the museum’s four corner pavilions while protecting delicate, high-value artwork. The galleries required carefully controlled, diffused illumination that would enhance the viewing experience while minimizing potentially damaging ultraviolet and infrared wavelengths, solar heat gain, and reliance on electric lighting.

The lighting solution also needed to support Princeton University’s sustainability goals by improving energy efficiency and helping reduce HVAC demands—all while creating balanced, vibrant gallery spaces where visitors can comfortably experience and study the collection.
